Certificate in Diaconal Studies (CDS, 29-30 semester hours)

Introduction: The Certificate in Diaconal Studies is designed to provide students with the necessary theological education, spiritual formation, and practical training needed to become a vocational/permanent deacon in the Anglican Church. For those already holding a bachelor’s degree, it is awarded as the Graduate Certificate in Diaconal Studies.
Program Goal: The goal of the CDS program is to provide fully-equipped ordained Anglican vocational/permanent deacons for effective Gospel-centered ministry in the Anglican Church through high quality theological education, spiritual formation, and ministry training to students in their local congregations.

Length of Program: Although it is possible to complete this program over a 1½ year period, the CDS is normally completed over a timeframe of two years. In order to accomplish this, the student must take an average of 6 semester hours of academic courses each semester. It is recommended that the internship be completed during the last 3 semesters of the student’s program. Students have up to 3 years to complete this program. Extensions may be authorized by the Dean.
