A parish-based community of spiritual and ministry formation serving the Anglican Church

At ASM we have a number of programs which fit a variety of theological training needs in the Church. The majority of the courses offered by ASM are delivered by videoconferencing, blogging, and net-conferencing, so you can participate from anywhere, even when on travel. Below are just a few study "tracks" for you to consider. Others are possible.
ARE YOU AN INTERESTED LAY PERSON?
You may be interested in taking just a few courses for your own edification or perhaps to help you be a better Bible study leader or Sunday school teacher. There are two options for you: Special Student and Auditing Student.
As a Special Student you can take up to 12 semester hours for credit. If you decide you want to be admitted into one of ASM's academic programs, these 12 hours will transfer into your new program. By the way, you can transfer from one program to another one time without any additional charge.
You may also take an unlimited number of courses on an audit basis. Auditing means no tests, papers, or homework (though you'll get more out of the class if you do the course readings). You are free to participate in class as much as you like. However, audited courses receive no academic credit. Look on the home page under Academics/Schedule& Calendars to find what classes are coming soon and when.
If you want training at a more relaxed pace (some homework, but no essays or no exams) then our FOUNDATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN MINISTRY program courses may be just what you are looking for. If you are a teacher, pastor, or other ministry professional, you can earn continuing education hours through this program.
DO YOU WANT TO BE A LAY MINISTER or LAY CATECHIST?
The Licensed Lay Minister program was recently introduced in the Anglican Mission and other Anglican Denominations. It is gaining a lot of attention. Lay ministers are planting churches, serving in pastoral ministry, and engaging in evangelistic outreach. For those called to this ministry ASM offers a program called Foundations for Christian Ministry. This consists of six courses in Bible, church doctrine and history, and ministry in an Anglican setting. They are available via videoconferecing or may be held in your area. Click to find out more about the FOUNDATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN MINISTRY program. If you want a more rigorous preparation, perhaps for a leadership position in Christian Education, then ASM’s state-approved MASTER OF MINISTRY with a Christian Education emphasis may be the program for you.
ARE YOU HEADED FOR ORDAINED MINISTRY?
Ordained ministry has a number of requirements, including extensive education to assist the candidate pass a rigorous exam.
If God has called you to be an ordained minister, you must work in cooperation with your pastor, parish discernment committee, and your bishop's clergy formation advisor. ASM can be one component in preparing you for ordination. Of course, completion of one or more of our programs does not guarantee ordination.
If you are seeking to be a Permanent Deacon the CERTIFICATE IN DIACONAL STUDIES is what is needed. You may also wish to consider our MASTER OF MINISTRY program with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry (Permanent Diaconate).
If you are seeking to be a Priest then the standard preparation is the MASTER OF MINISTRY program with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry (Presbyterate). If you already have a seminary degree or a graduate degree in a subject area with ministry applicability (such as counseling or education), then the program which may prepare you most quickly is the GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN ANGLICAN STUDIES.
