A parish-based community of spiritual and ministry formation serving the Anglican Church
Welcome to ASM! As the founder, President, and Dean of the school, I am blessed that you are a part of our community of spiritual and ministry formation. In many ways, life as a student at ASM is similar to that of graduate-level students at any theological seminary: lots of reading and writing, studying for exams, and trying to schedule school work around a busy schedule of employment and ministry. However, there are many differences, such as web-based instruction and the flexibility of remaining in your current vocational and ministry context. So, to help you understand what you can expect while you are studying at ASM.
Our Community is composed of students, instructors, and pastor/mentors from across North America. While our culture is clearly Anglican, you will find that we are welcoming of students from all orthodox Christian faiths. We are an Anglican school, but more importantly we are a creedal, biblical Christian community of learning.
As a student you will not just be a consumer of theological education—you will be an active contributor to your and other students’ formation. Your constructive interaction with your classmates, mentors, and instructors is an integral part of the mission of ASM.
Yes, our community is in large measure an online, virtual presence, but as strange as it may seem, genuine camaraderie, accountability, and mutual support really do happen. Meeting via WebEx®, our students and instructors get to know each other face-to-face and in real time. The intentionality which ASM brings to our courses means you get all the advantages of being in a classroom while at the same time having the flexibility of studying at home.
There are two important areas which contribute to the makeup of your life as an ASM student: Academics, of course, and Mentoring. I'd like to give you a little more information about each of these, so you can get a feel for student life. You can see how we "do" our Academics here. You can get a better picture for our Mentoring here. Take a moment to look these over. We trust that, as you review these two links, you will be as excited about being a part of the community as the dozens of students from all over North America who are already studying at ASM. It's great to have you with us!
Blessings,
Mark+
